WE look to the FUTURE...

So in my last blog for the class I am going to talk to you about the future of technology...the Final Frontier!
To me the future of technology rest in the advance ment of chips and operating systems, this should be no shock because it all rest in the betterment of these for products. The size, flexibility and transparency of these are the future of technology. Technology will grow and become even more of a staple of our lives but also I think the appeal of the technology will have to stay high. People will want what they cant wrap their heads around. They will want the technology that science fiction is even scared to dream up. The demand to have the smallest, sleekest, and most powerful technology will drive the market in the future.

The technology of the future will be complex in design but simple in appearance. It will be able to to do the most complicated task and be just a piece of transparent glass.  As below...

I believe that we will see glass phones and transparent bendable tablets.

Samsung Transparent Tablet Concept

In closing I want to bring everything full circle. Douglas Rushkoff said..

"As we move into an increasingly digital reality, we must learn not just how to use programs but how to make them. In the emerging, highly programmed landscape ahead, you will either create the software or you will be the software. It’s really that simple: Program, or be programmed."

With the technology of the future quickly approaching the horizon we must remind ourselves of this quote and what impact the new technology will come on us as human beings and our free will to think. Will the technology be smarter then us to the point to that it thinks it's self and grows. Will the technology of the future be programed and ruled by us or will we be left to be played like ponds in technology's chest match for world domination much like world of the Matrix.

LamdaMoo sounds like a Sorority...And to me thats lame sauce...

Besides the name causing me to gag a little on some bile that came up my throat because of my distate for greek life. However once reading the articles this week and the intro to what LambdaMoo actually is, the need to throw up subsided. LambdaMoo is a wird concept to say the least in a cultural that is driven by the visual stimulation of technology. It is a cyber cultural that is all in text. There are different rooms that you can venture into and people you can convers with all thru text thought not through a cyber avatar or visual representation.

To me this was a draw back but also a unique factor. On of my many loves in life is conversation. For instance the first conversation to me is gold. People dont have a filter and are real and true in their speech. Many times I can tell the personality of a person and if I am compatible with them in the conversation. So to me LambdaMoo relying so much on just conversation and no visual stimulation is refreshing. This was echoed in Kevin Kelly's "What Technology Wants: Technology Trajectories" when he stated that "Our role as humans, at least form the time being, is to coax technology along the paths that it naturally wants to go." This spoke to because technology is developing so rapidly and is so complicated maybe it just wants to be simple and elegant conversation in black and white.

So in review LambdaMoo is a completely text driven world that takes entering codes to move locations. It is a place of conversation and community. So if you are in need of conversation it up LambdaMOO!!!!

I cheated and I liked it ;)

Have you ever been so in love with something
that the thought of cheating is revolting?

I have this with my current boyfriend however this is not the relationship in which I am referring to. My relationship with Facebook has been along one. We are about to celebrate 6 healthy loving years together. I enjoy our long statuses and the ability of creep on others in stealth.

However a little tramp has come along recently and has stared to tempt me TO CHEAT. TWITTER is the name of this temptress, which at a fast glance is only a Facebook status bar, sooo original!!! This fact alone is the reason that until recently I have been faithful to my love, Facebook. However after taking Twitter for a ride or two my heart is now conflicted and confused not knowing what to do.

In Julian Dibbell's article, Future of Social Media: Is the Tweet the New Size of a thought?Julian touches on a draw back of twitter. The most important thing about it isn't the messages themselves — most of them are admittedly banal — but the form of the message: 140 characters or fewer. Twitter is meant for short burst of thought and expressions. However to me the 140 character max is very restricting and I myself don’t thing in 140 characters or less. To me twitter is a washed down attempt at a social media site. However this changed after I read this article and this particular paragraph.

“… by forcing users to commit their thinking to the bite-size form of the public tweet, Twitter maybe giving a powerfully productive new life to a hitherto underexploited quantum of thought: The random, fleeting observation.

This passage sparked an idea in my head to better understand twitter. I now view twitter as a modern day form of poetry, comparable to short poetic prose. These short burst of thought have to be condensed down in a witty and poetic way for followers to understand the tweets.

So as I continue to use both Facebook and Twitter, my heart grows fonder of both. They both offer different and unique options of communication. However this is becoming an affair to remember with both of them sometimes receiving the same love (status update) from me.

So come and watch the fireworks in this affair to remember @ Luke Charbonneau and LCharbie17
